Rockliffe Manor Primary School

Admissions

The following Admissions Policy applies to Rockliffe Manor Primary School, Bassant Road, Plumstead, London SE18 2NP

Children can be admitted to the nursery class after their third birthday and will normally spend four terms in the nursery, until eligible for the main school. The nursery currently offers only a morning session. There are places for 26 children in this session. Children enter the main school at the beginning of the academic year, in which they are five. As a single form entry Primary school, Greenwich has defined the approved class size as 30 children. The classes are arranged into single year groups:

Foundation Stage:

Nursery                   3/5 years
Reception               4/5 years

Key Stage 1:

Year 1                      5/6 years
Year 2                      6/7 years

Key Stage 2:

Year 3                     7/8 years
Year 4                     8/9 years
Year 5                     9/10 years
Year 6                    10/11 years

The school is always over-subscribed for places in both the Nursery and Reception Classes. Admission into the nursery is the responsibility of the school. However, admission into the Reception class is the responsibility of the Local Authority.

Nursery 2024-25

Nursery

We have provision for 26 part time places for 3 hours in the morning from 8.50-11.50am. Every child will be given a place where possible. Applications for our nursery class should be made directly to school. Please contact the school office on 0208 854 4785 or email info@inspirerockliffe.co.uk for more information.

Children will usually be admitted into a nursery in the term after their third birthday subject to availability of place, and places will be offered in the term before the children are due to start. Documentation will be required to support applications, including children’s birth certificate or passport and proof of address. This will consist of a Council Tax statement, Council Tax Benefit letter, or a Council Tax exemption certificate.

We have provision for 26 part time places totalling 15 hours per week.

Nursery Admissions Process

Applications to nursery schools or classes are made direct to the school.

Children will not be admitted to a nursery class or nursery school before their third birthday.

If it is not possible to offer a child a place, a request can be made for the child’s name to be placed on the waiting list. However, there is no formal appeals process.

All places are allocated according to the admissions criteria below and distance (Category 5) is measured in a straight line from the applicant’s home address to the main school gate located on Bassant Road.

This school does not require a Supplementary Information form to be completed.

If you wish to apply for a nursery place, you should contact the school to make an appointment to meet the Headteacher and visit the nursery.

During this visit you may collect an application form and the Admissions procedure will be fully explained. The Headteacher and nursery staff will answer any questions parents may have. You and your child are welcome to stay and play in the nursery for an hour. Parents who wish to apply for a nursery place must then fill in the application form and return it to school no later than their child’s third birthday. We admit children to our nursery after their third birthday.

All applicants will be notified when or if they have been successful in their application. If an applicant is not successful, their application form will be held in school and will be reconsidered if a place becomes available.

In-Year admissions for 2024/25

Changing schools can be disruptive and may not be in your child's best interests. We recommend that before requesting a transfer, you discuss your reasons with senior staff at your child's current school. They will be happy to discuss any concerns and help to resolve any issues.

If, after this, if you still want your child to transfer to Rockliffe Manor Primary School, you will need to apply using the process described below.

The Royal Greenwich in-year admissions process and applications portal

If you have recently been informed by Royal Greenwich admissions that your child has been allocated a place at Rockliffe Manor, Christine Diggin from our Admin team will contact you and invite you and your child into school to complete the necessary forms.  You will also have the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, their class, and to familiarise yourself with our building. Once all relevant documentation has been completed and received, your child will usually join us within the following two weeks.

Please click to view Royal Borough of Greenwich's Primary School Admissions Policy.

Fair Access

A fair access protocol exists to ensure that children without a school place, especially the most vulnerable, are offered a place at an appropriate school as quickly as possible.

The fair access panel meets fortnightly and it includes representatives from Royal Greenwich schools, the local authority and other agencies.

The panel considers all the information available and the child's individual circumstances to make a decision about what school would best meet the child's needs.

Children admitted through the fair access panel get priority over children who wish to transfer to another school and those who are waiting for an appeal.
