Book Week 2018This week Rockliffe Manor celebrated our annual Book Week. Throughout the week the children have participated in many exciting activities and events to further inspire and encourage their love of reading.
To kick off the week children and parents were welcomed to our Book Fair where they were able to browse and purchase books using their £1.00 money off book token. The children were also introduced to our sponsored read, in aid of the Read for Good charity, and we also launched our Reading Snapshot competition. On Tuesday, Rockliffe Manor held our ever popular Dad's Breakfast, where Dads, Grandads, Uncles and other male relatives were invited in to share a delicious breakfast and a book with their children - thank you to all of those who joined us, there wasn't a spare seat in the house! Also on Tuesday were the finals of our annual Spelling Bee where our finalists were tested on words from famous children's books. We would like to congratulate all of our winners and finalists, as well as all others who took part.
On Wednesday we were lucky enough to be visited by African Storyteller, Usifu Jalloh, who delivered an enormously enjoyable assembly and story telling workshops based around our core value of cooperation. Excitingly, Usifu was also joined by a film crew as he is in the process of making a documentary about his work in both the UK and Sierra Leone.
After the success of his workshops last year, children's author John Owen Theobald joined us on Thursday to lead an assembly and some informative writing workshops for our older children.
To mark the end of Book Week the children and staff were invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book characters, and on Friday afternoon we also took part in 'Buddy Reading' where the children joined up with a member of another class to share a book together.
What a great week!
